About Susan

Susan Cunningham

Space and colour are of the greatest importance to this feisty artist. She firmly believes that every aspect of our environment should exert a positive influence and wants her images to reflect that belief.

In her paintings she fuses strong shapes and vibrant combinations of colours to create a pleasing tranquility and harmony that invites the viewer to pause and enjoy a different perspective on the world.

Having trained and gained her professional qualification as a Graphic Designer at Croydon College of Art in the mould-breaking era of the 1960s, she worked in Advertising agencies in London. Marrying in 1969, she subsequently became the fulltime mother of two lively sons. Her creativity and professional abilities were utilized in the formation of a very successful campaigning organisation.

In recent years, she has travelled to many countries and spent considerable periods of time enjoying their natural scenery and their historic towns and cities.

Her travels have inspired her paintings. Throughout the millennia, humans have always desired the same comforts in their lives. The clothes, the buildings, the religions change, but the basic needs remain. Her works show the “essentials” which resonate through all societies.

Having developed her own specialized techniques, she is intensely focused when creating a new image. She uses the medium of flow formula acrylic to paint on stretched cotton canvas; works range in size: from h16″ x w22″ through h30″ x w40″ to h36″ x w48″.

As well as the demand for her original paintings, she is genuinely delighted by requests for prints of her work, at both a local and an international level. Thanks to modern technology, people can select one of her images, then choose the size and the material (canvas or paper) of the finished product to suit their own environment. She hopes the inclusion of her images is always a very positive influence in their lives.

Many of Susan Cunningham’s images are available to purchase as prints, from as little as £29.82.
